We’re counting down the days until two exciting exhibitions open at Ushaw on Saturday, 12th April 2025: The Discovery of Birds and The Ushaw Editions - and you're invited to be among the first to experience them.
From rare ornithological illustrations to prints produced by contemporary artists in response to Ushaw and its collections. These exhibitions offer a unique glimpse into art, nature, and the printed world. Read more here.
We have launched a six-month trial, from 1st April 2025, allowing well-behaved dogs inside the Main House. Dogs will be allowed entry to our café (restrictions apply) and corridors where we showcase temporary exhibitions by local artists. Find out more here.

Feathers & Fun: Easter at Ushaw
This Easter, enjoy lots of feathers and family fun at Ushaw as we celebrate the launch of our new exhibition The Discovery of Birds. See what’s coming up below.

Bird Spotting Garden Trail - Help us to survey the birds who live in our grounds. Pick up your spotters guide from the Visitor Centre and keep a tally of what you see!
Spot & Search Indoor Trail - In our Spot & Search Trail, see if you can find all the feathery details in our The Discovery of Birds exhibition.
Toy Takeover (excluding Thurs 17 & 24 April) - Our Toy Takeovers are back for Easter, as we’ll have with heaps of track and trains for your young engineers to construct and play to their hearts content.

Make Mosaics - Monday 14th, Tuesday, 15th & Tuesday, 22th April 2025
Choose either a bird or square shaped base and decorate to your heart’s content using tumbled glass pieces. Pre-booking required, book your place here.
Backpacks & Birdsong - Monday 14th, Tuesday, 15th & Thursday, 24th April 2025
Gather together to illustrate your own drawstring backpack, and make a pair of binoculars and some bird feeders before going off on your own ornithological adventure in Ushaw’s grounds. Pre-booking required, book your place here.
Stop Motion Workshops - Thursday, 17th & Tuesday, 22nd April 2025
Come and bring your imagination to life, use stop motion to animate your Easter or Birds scene. Pre-booking required, book your place here.
Easter Hanging Decorations - Thursday, 17th & Friday, 18th April 2025
